Vortex Series
Vortex Series
I created these series with beauty in mind. I wanted to simplify my artistic process by limiting my materials and colour palette in order to delve deeper into what makes a beautiful aesthetic visual experience.
In 'Vortex of Love,' deep reds, vibrant pinks and lush oranges mixed with glittering gold and shimmering bronze acrylic paints to initiate an intimate feeling of pleasure from the viewers. Layers of polyurethane seal the surface of the swirling composition to ensure a lasting work of art.
In 'Striped Vortex,' canvases were collaged, painted and sealed only to then be cut apart into strips. These strips were layered over an abstracted vortex painted background and combined with paper, tape and rub-ons to create vertical and horizontal compositions.
In 'Square Vortex,' I added a little depth and meaning to the simplified and idyllic composition of the vortex paintings by meticulously gluing on gold leaf in square shapes that represent the conceptual spaces within our minds that we box off from other people.
