Mixed media and Acrylic paint on Canvas 41cm x 102cm
This painting reverts to an old theme of questioning how important past memories are, but goes beyond this to analyse how heavy a burden they can become. I find that with this new series I try to move beyond the pressures of society and my past in order to investigate individual desires and wants through the combination of acrylic paint and found paper memorabilia.
Phoenix Rising
Mixed media and Acrylic paint on Canvas 45cm x 45cm
The first in the series, this female image was transferred onto a background of golds and reds. She seems to be rising from the flames or the sunrise behind her. Here instead of layering other images with her, I wanted to display the purity of the figure by allowing her to exist alone amidst the painted surface. The background seems, at first glance, pure but closer inspection reveals the impurities that symbolically represent the cracks in a vain existence. It is made of acrylic paint, oil pastels, magazine transfer, metal paint and a polyacryic glaze to seal the surface.
Are We All Bond Girls?
Mixed media and Acrylic paint on Canvas. 25cm x 50cm
Created out of the destruction of another piece, this painting questions the stereotypical idea of beauty promoted by the media. This painting visually deals with understanding the advantages and disadvantages of seeing women as objects of desire and beauty by manipulating acrylic paint, found images and papers.
Un Vieux Classique - SOLD
Mixed Media and Acrylic paint on Canvas 20cm x 20cm
The small pleasures in life stem from memories triggered by our emotional connection to physical objects. Throughout my mixed media paintings, I investigate simple questions about the human nature of memories through a process of finding and collecting paper memorabilia while on my travels which remind me of the places traveled to or experiences had. I combine these found objects with the sensual colors of gold, reds, yellows and pops of blues in order to provoke the audience into an emotional reaction to the pieces which simulate the emotional experiences I've had. This piece combines found memorabilia from my travels to both Rome and Paris for my 'golden' birthday and investigates how images and textures can trigger emotional reactions and add to past memories in order to keep them alive in the present.
