Desert of Knowledge

30cm x 61cm This painting was inspired by my trip to Egypt in January 2008 with my grandparents. The women in my family are particularly independent, and it was interesting traveling with my Grandmother to a culture so different than mine. It made me question how different the cultural standards which society places upon women can be. I combined acrylic paint and images brought back from Egypt with other found and bought materials and sealed the surface with polyacrylic. |

Under the Sea

As an art teacher and art historian, I constantly feel pulled into the realm of mythology and imagination. This painting is about having the right to be who or whatever one wants to be. A strong female figure is presented with the sensual tail of a mermaid through a mixture of acrylic paint, colored pencil, found papers and images. This painting plays with the idea of three-dimensionality on a two-dimensional surface as many parts pop out of the main surface of the canvas.
