Re-Collection I

Alice in Motherland - SOLD

Picture
Mixed media and Acrylic paint on Canvas sealed with Polyacrylic.
20cm x 25cm

What does it mean to be a mother, to be a daughter? Are these roles we must play, or are they instinctual habits we want to fulfill? This painting tries to visually investigate these questions through a combination of acrylic paint, stickers, texts, and found images.

Desert of Knowledge

Picture
Mixed media and Acrylic paint on Canvas sealed with Polyacrylic.
30cm x 61cm

This painting was inspired by my trip to Egypt in January 2008 with my grandparents. The women in my family are particularly independent, and it was interesting traveling with my Grandmother to a culture so different than mine. It made me question how different the cultural standards which society places upon women can be. I combined acrylic paint and images brought back from Egypt with other found and bought materials and sealed the surface with polyacrylic.

God-dess

Picture

40cm x 51cm

This painting questions the memories we have of our past. Through shapes and colours, I try to visually decipher how much relevance should be placed on past memories and how much influence family and society might have on an individual.

Diving Head First - SOLD

Picture

Mixed media and Acrylic paint on Canvas sealed with Polyacrylic
30cm x 30xm

Playing with the idea of fluidity and floating, this painting combines images of figures with collage papers, starfish and text in order to investigate adaptability. The translucent surface of the painting draws attention to how permeable societal standards can in fact be.

Under the Sea

Picture

Mixed media and Acrylic paint on Canvas sealed with Polyacrylic
30cm x 40cm

As an art teacher and art historian, I constantly feel pulled into the realm of mythology and imagination. This painting is about having the right to be who or whatever one wants to be. A strong female figure is presented with the sensual tail of a mermaid through a mixture of acrylic paint, colored pencil, found papers and images. This painting plays with the idea of three-dimensionality on a two-dimensional surface as many parts pop out of the main surface of the canvas.

These works of art are for sale at DegreeArt.com and SaatchiOnline.com.
